Weekly topic: Standing out in Interviews - With your X factor WITH examples!

One of the many things that set candidates apart is not just answering questions and being prepared but it often comes down to the delivery. The How of what you say.
Stay with me. Trust the process:
Imagine this, you have recited everything and all the expected questions but still something does not click.
On paper you tick everything but still something is missing. Hiring Manager is still not convinced because they are looking for something which is called the X factor.
What makes you different from the person who they just met?
First understand the psyche of the Employer:
Workplaces are changing today with employers demanding more from candidates. Candidates who are not only agile but have more emotional intelligence.
Those who can’t only handle the technicalities and the systems but have more problem solving, critical thinking and relationship handling experiences and capabilities.
So here’s not to waste your time on: If you are selected for the Interview, nail it in your head that they already know that you have the technical capabilities to do this job.
3 ways you can stand apart from the competition and showcase your X factor:
Career stories with your twist: Prepare your career stories for most commonly asked interview questions. Have them handy somewhere and use them to tweak them to the questions thrown at you.
Now in these career stories, always point out how YOU made an impact. This showcases how you made a difference to a normal situation.
For eg: Situation: You resolved a customer complaint.
Okay so what?
Your X factor: You handled a customer complaint by yourself without bothering your Manager for guidance. You resolved it effectively ensuring the Customer was satisfied ( demonstrating problem solving skills) and saved your Manager’s time (showcasing reliability)
It’s a win win.
Emotional Intelligence and Interpersonal Skills
During your interview, show that you can connect with people on a personal level. This means actively listening, showing empathy, and effectively communicating your ideas.
Example: Instead of just explaining how you managed a team project, talk about how you motivated your team, resolved conflicts, and created an environment where everyone felt valued.
Connect the dots for them
Employers LOVE candidates who are genuinely passionate about the role, company and who can link the dots between their experience and can genuinely help the Company reach their goals.
You have only one job here and that is to convince the Employer answer this question:
How can I help this Company with MY experience?
This shows you are self aware and a lit individual. Show leadership in your thoughts.
Show enthusiasm for the job and explain why it excites you.
Example: If you’re interviewing for a role at a tech company, discuss how you’ve been following their innovations and how your passion/experience for technology aligns with what they are trying to achieve.
Final Tips:
Remember Confidence comes from preparation and practice. Every interview is a learning experience, bringing you one step closer to your ideal job.
I aim to keep these Newsletters short and digestible. I will be back next week with actionable tips to grow your confidence, career and Income.
